Treatments

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a relatively common form of congenital heart disease, occurring in 7-9% of neonates in whom heart disease is diagnosed in the first year of life. There are two main ways to go about treating children with HLHS. One way is through transplantation. Another way is through surgery. There are three surgeries that are usually done: the Norwood procedure, Glenn Procedure, and the Fontan procedure. These three surgeries are vital to the survival of a child with HLHS. In addition to these three surgeries, there is another surgical path that could be taken. In that path the hybrid sugery could be performed.
