My name is Lakshmi Kunam, and I am a junior in high school! I created this website to inform the parents of the children with HLHS and any other person about hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) and the measures taken to help a child survive. This website is my final product for a class I am in called Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM). In the class students study under a mentor for a year and create a final product displaying what they learned. Under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph Forbess at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, TX, I was able to study pediatric cardiothoracic surgery while watching many surgeries done by Dr. Forbess. With knowledge from various online sources and chapters of books given by my mentor, I created the contents of this website. I hope that this website will spread the infromation about HLHS and raise awareness. I also hope to help the parents of a child with HLHS in understanding this syndrome and the surgeries that must be done to help their child survive.
